BAS compliance

BAS LODGEMENT SERVICE

A Business Activity Statement (BAS) is a form that businesses must submit to the ATO in order to report and pay their tax liabilities. A large component of BAS is related to GST.

When you complete a BAS, you are reporting the GST amount you’ve collected on the sales of your products or services minus any amount that you’ve paid on your purchases. The difference is what you owe to the ATO

Your BAS can also include PAYG withholding and instalments, FBT instalments, luxury car tax and wine equalisation tax.

WHEN AND HOW TO LODGE A BAS

when is a bas required?

If monthly reporting is the requirement, your BAS must be lodged and paid on the 21st of the month, which is the required taxable period. However, your BAS lodgement could be done monthly, quarterly, or annually.

TPAR compliance

TPAR LODGEMENT SERVICE

TPAR is an acronym for Taxable Payments Annual Report. To be exact, this type of report is industry-specific, with some typical businesses operating in:

    • Building and construction services
    • Cleaning services
    • Road freight and Courier services
    • Information technology services
    • Security, investigation or surveillance services

The ATO requires you to lodge a TPAR if:

    • 10% or more of your business income for the financial year is from a relevant service
    • you also made payments to contractors for a relevant service during the year.
